Hi,
I downloaded joop 1.3.2 and I am trying to install it on wordpress 3.9.1.
When i tried to upload the “joop.zip” file and I click on “install now”, the “add theme page” stops for a long time (the download bar doesn’t seem to move) and after a long while it says to me “sure do toy want to do that?”.I’ve tried many times. What’s going on?
Thanks for a quick answer,
Nicola G -

Hi Nicola,
That is quite strange, however Joop has not yet been tested / made compatible with WP3.9.1, it currently runs on WP3.8.2, I’m thinking that may well be the issue.
What you could do is try uploading it through FTP.
In order to do that:
– Unzip your theme folder.
– Log onto your FTP server using an FTP client or possibly your host’s provided web service.
– On your FTP, navigate towards wp-content/themes/
– copy your theme folder (unzipped folder) into wp-content/themes/
– Go to appearance -> themes on your WP dashboard and activate JOOPThat may work for installing the theme, do note that JOOP has not yet been tested against WP3.9.1
Kind regards,
Kevin

Hi kevin,
I’ve tried with your instructions trough ftp (filezilla), uploading the unzipped file joop, but it doesn’t work. After the upload no Joop theme is found in the dashboard!
I am really disappointed, I would like to have this malfunction fixed as soon as possible!
Thanks for a quick answer.

Hi Kevin,
I will be happy to understand what’s going on. Why it doesn’t work? What I have to do?
Sorry that I’m quite pressing but it’s not possible to pay for something and do not get it!
Thanks, greetings
Nicola

Nicola,
G’Day.
I’m also not sure why you are having issues installing the Joop theme.
The way you originally did it and the way Kevin suggested should both work fine.I’ve just created a new sub-domain, installed WordPress (ver 3.9.1), installed the Joop theme and activated it, and installed the Dummy Content, and all is working fine. That was all done within five minutes ! It can be viewed here: http://joop.supamacstats.com
So I’m at a bit of a loss as to why your installation isn’t working.A couple of questions:
1. Are you self installing WordPress or using your hosting company’s ‘Fantastico’ automatic installation ?
2. Is the WordPress installation in the root (public_html) directory of the server ?Also, which hosting company are you using ?
Are you able to do an install on your local server (PC, Laptop) using something like Desktop Server to see if it works. One other suggestion, that may or may not help, is that your hosting company might not be allocating sufficient memory resources.
What I do when installing WordPress (and I do the self install way) is to add the following line of code below to the wp-config.php file in WordPress to ensure that there is always sufficient memory to run WordPress and the theme and all components.
The code is: define( ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ’64M’ );
I usually add this to the file after the localised language section – on the next line after : define(‘WPLANG’, ”);Cheers
Michael.

Hi Michael,
I hope to fully answer your questions (I am a simple user not an IT expert).1. Are you self installing WordPress or using your hosting company’s ‘Fantastico’ automatic installation ?
I’ve tried both, trough wordpress dashboard and trough hosting automatic installation (parallels plesk). Furthermore, I’ve utilized ftp client filezilla. No one of the methods works!2. Is the WordPress installation in the root (public_html) directory of the server ?
I am not sure where to find out this answer. Is it possibile that the WordPress installation is located in the root called httpdocs? (see the photo in attachment),The company I’m using is Vhosting, I’ve unlimited traffic but 1024 MB web space (900 left).
“Are you able to do an install on your local server (PC, Laptop) using something like Desktop Server to see if it works?”
Yes I am able but it will take time because I have not done it before, will it solve my issue?I add the code you said, I did again the self-istallation but no changes happened!
I thank you for your help,

Hi Nicola,
If you wish, I could go check out your FTP, see if everything is where it is supposed to be and see if I can find what’s holding back this install.
I’m thinking at this point that would be our best shot at a quick solution.I would need some login data though.
Feel free to send in a support ticket (my account -> submit ticket) that contains:
FTP data (Host, username, password)
WP-admin data (URL, username, password) This one so I can check for changes in case I alter something
and preferably also a link to this topic, so we’ll know what it’s aboutKind regards,

Nicola,
G’Day again.
I’d recommend taking up Kevin’s offer to help via access to your hosting, etc.
Looking at the attachment that you included in the last posting from you shows only part of WordPress as having been installed with misisng directories, etc. And there is also a separate directory called Joop which I’m not sure is there for.
So, yes, give Kevin the credentials and I’m sure that he’ll be able to straighten it out in no time.
Cheers,
Michael.

Hi Kevin, Hi Michael
thanks both for your help, yesterday night I finally got it.
I had untidy folders messing around and I reinstalled it again more carefully.
The thin is that since I cannot use the wordpress upload theme service, It took a lot of time to understand how FTP works and where to put right the wp-content. I hope to have done it well.Anyway, I think there is something odd, when I am trying to install the file hoop-dummy-content using the “wordpress importer plugin”, wordpress gives me an error (I’ve attached it in the photo below).
Does it mean that there is something wrong in my wordpress folder and I should only use my hosting company’s automatic installation in order to upload plugins and others things?
Kevin, Might I ask you to check inside my ftp-data if there are problems?Thank you for your time,

Hi Nicola,
Sure, just go ahead and send in a ticket using My account -> submit ticket (top right). With the information I pointed out in my previous reply.
I’m expecting (or maybe hoping) that it’s actually just one little thing that’s not set-up properly
Kind regards,

Hi Nicola,
Your wordpress installation looks good. It also appears the JOOP theme has been installed succesfully and it seems to be running like it should.
I see you have installed your wordpress in a sub-folder (namely, wordpress) That’s why your Url is now also http://www.url.com/wordpress/ You could also decide to install it in the root folder so you don’t have the /wordpress/ in your URL all the time. to do this, just upload the contents of the “wordpress” folder to your httpdocs, instead of uploading the folder called “wordpress” itself. Alternatively, if you’ve installed it using an auto-install provided by your host, I would expect them to offer some sort of option for that.If I understand it properly, what you’re now trying to do is install the dummy content? It could be that the fact that you’re in a sub-folder is interfering with the installation of the dummy content, quite frankly I don’t believe I’ve tried that before. If you wish I could try installing the dummy content in your current installation, otherwise if you’d like to change your information to the root folder as I described earlier it would be best to do that first, to avoid double work.
Kind regards,
Kevin -

Hi kevin,
I understand your point but there is a problem (it happened yesterday) which pushed me to create a sub-folder called wordpress.
If I upload the contents of the wordpress folder directly to my httpdocs main folder I get a distortion of the website (as you can see in the photo below). Why something like that?
Thanks for your help,

Hi Nicola,
That’s fairly odd.. The root folder should be completely fine (that’s what most people use since it makes your URL look best).
What have you done for this new installation? I can see it is still looking to access things from the /wordpress/ directory (which of course is no longer there). It seems like all of the links are still directed towards the wrong source, causing most content to remain unfound and the site to show up really strange.
Have you moved the existing files from /wordpress/ into the root directory, and then deleted /wordpress/?If so, could you try doing a fresh re-install instead?
What I think would be best (at this point) is to remove all the wordpress-related files from your FTP, delete the databases you’ve created with wordpress so far and then do one fresh install using the original wordpress files. Since you did manage to do a proper install back in that sub-folder, I’m confident that the installation in the root should go right as well (since it’s really the exact same thing).By deleting all old stuff and doing a fresh install, there should be no links left to lead towards the /wordpress/ directory, and you server will be as clean as possible.
Best of luck!
Kevin

hi kevin,
As you wrote, for the new installation I just moved all the files from wordpress folder to httpdocs and than I deleted the empty wordpress folder.
I will try to re-install everything hoping the best! I let you know asap.
Thanks a lot,

Hi kevin,
I installed everything and joop runs as aspected, anyway there is still the issue with
joop-dummy-content.xml (attached in the photo below). This time I think that the metter isn’t the root folder but I cannot find out what to do…I ask your help again, you might either telling me where to install joop-dummy-content.xml through FTP or trying to install the dummy content in my current installation.
By the way, even if wordpress was installed within the main root directory, I was forced to install joop through ftp.
Thanks, sorry to be annoying but I want to start with everything working in the right location.
Nicola
