First of all, let me congratulate you for the awesome upgrade you have made to MikMag. I am just loving it. It resolved most of the issues I was having a few small issues. Will greatly appreciate if you can help.
My Domain is shadowsgalore.com
1. The sidebars have become a bit broader and I want to limit them at 300 as they were earlier, any idea how to do that ? It is visible on the home page.
2. I am seeing a white band between the WP admin bar and the header. Any idea why it may be coming ?
3. The blog page (http://www.shadowsgalore.com/blog/) is still showing full post format even though I have set them as excerpt. How to correct this one ?
Thanks
Puru

4. There is no functionality to configure footer for a BB Press Forum. As a result the footer doesn’t come ..

5. Website is loading slower. While it was around 2 second earlier now it is taking more than 10 seconds. However I am working on it and will tell you how did it go.

Please let me do the Beta Testing too from next time. Trust me I am a good Software tester 😛

1, sidebars ) The sidebar width is now 32% and in the previous version it appears to have been at 27%. I think the only way to alter this would be by changing some of the CSS that’s controlling this (and also the one controlling the size of the main content area).
2, white bar ) I don’t quite know where that might be coming from.. I must say I’m not getting that myself. Have you got any plugins installed? also, is this only in the front-end?
3, Excerpts ) That’s strange…. While investigating the issue i noticed our demo website is actually doing the exact opposite of this. We’ve got “full text” selected and yet it’s showing excerpts. I’ve requested for our developers to look into this.
4, BB-press footer) I see the page you linked to is no longer there, i went to tavern-> forums and did notice the footer appearing there. Has this been resolved or are you still having trouble here?
5, Load-Time) I don’t see how that could be a mikmag 2.0 thing, the reason for this is that the mikmag code has had an thorough cleanup in this update. It should actually be faster than the old version. We’re not having any speed issues ourselves, neither have any of our beta testers reported to… I think it should have some other cause.
As for the beta tester team, I’m afraid I’m not the one who’s responsible for the team selection. I do very much appreciate your willingness to help.
Kind regards,
Kevin

6. One more. The Share buttons at the bottom of the post (this comes from the default JetPack) are coming mixed up. They were good earlier. Screenshot attached.

@Kevin
Thanks for your response. Here is mine one by one:
1. Can you tell me which CSS (and where) is the sidebar coming from. I will go and change it back to 27%.
2. The white bar is interesting, I just figured out that it comes only when am logged in. Visitors cant see it. Thats ok for me 😛 .. But you might need to check in case other users get this.
3. Thanks. Its much better than before but just some fraction of something missing.
4. BB Press Footer issue. You did not see it because I had turned off BB Press for some testing. Now you can see.
5. I can’t blame that on you. Am doing extensive testing and will update you.
6. A new issue I raised. Jetpack is an important plugin and a very nasty one. Hope you can find a fix.

I think you are using BBpress here.. how did you make the footer appear ?
-
at #11864Puru SinghMember
Please ignore the BB Press thing. I figured it out. When you add BBPress, in Mikmag option, BBPress comes at its own and there you can set the sidebar, footer etc etc ..
I am amazed at how smart you have made Mikmag ! 🙂

It would be nice to know how to change the dimensions back. I am among those who really love the Mikmag design, but at the same time find it frustrating that something as significant as dimension changes to the sidebar and content area are done without giving an option to resize them back.
Your customers have already designed their content to fit the dimensions, now everything is going to align poorly, look awful and the response seems to be: well it’s in there somewhere.

I agree with Justin. My Homepage is now broken on Safari and not looking too good on Chrome because of Sidebar. Also, the breadth of the text part in the slider is now not matching with the sidebar width.
Therefore it will be great if you let us know how to go back to the old width.

1. It appears that you’ll need to change more than only the sidebar width. Also the content width and perhaps things might also differ when using multiple sidebars or left/right sidebars and things like that. It might just not be as simple as that.
I will check with the developers on why they decided to change this and see if we can find a way to help you with this one
2. I just noticed this turning up on one of our test sites as well. sent it through to the developers to check out
6. I’m afraid I cannot guarantee that this one will be solved. The thing is that with all the existing plugins it’s impossible for us to make sure our theme works perfectly with all of them. For this reason we don’t guarantee full compatibility with all plugins.

Kevin,
G’Day again.
You can add my confirmation re Item 2 that Puru has been reporting. When I’m logged in to the site the white bar appears, but when the site is view normally it doesn’t appear.
I’ll be interested to hear what your developer says as I’m starting to use the theme to build out a site for an international sports group that will be a membership site, so many will be logging in and naturally don’t want that white bar to appear.
Cheers,
Michael.

Hi Kevin,
1. (Sidebar) – It will be great if the sidebars are brought back to the dimension they were having before. 300 px seems to be the industry standard and the current one looks a bit too wide. Hoping to see something for this in the 3.6 release.
2, 3 : You already seem to be working on it.
5. Load time is now under control. Looks like it was more of a W3TC new version issue than the Theme. Consider it closed.
6. While I agree that plugin compatibility cannot be guaranteed, there are some plugins which are simply too big to ignore and Jetpack is one such. Just a good to have.
Thank You for all your help.

Hi Puru (and Michael, for one of the questions)
I just got word from our developer that the white bar issue has been fixed so that one will be gone with the next issue.
On this sidebar issue, I got the answer that these new dimensions are there because of the new grid we’re using on the new framework we’ve built for this theme. Changing these dimensions would cause problems displaying the website on different devices and different sizes.
I understand your point. I’ll be notifying our developers about the issue but cannot promise anything, it will be up to them to decide what to do when they get to another update. The big problem is that getting a theme like mikmag compatible with some major plugins (woocommerce, bb-press/buddypress) has already proven to be an incredible task. Even though the issues with this plugin appear quite minor, there’s still a whole lot of other plugins around so you can guess what would happen when we start making exceptions….

Am perfectly fine with plugin stuff Kevin, however the sidebar is a matter of concern.
7. The Related Items which comes at the bottom of a post is a little weird now as the text spills out of the frame. I think someone else has already raised this issue, but just for records here.

Hi Puru,
I do understand your concern for the sidebar width but as this was something implemented with the new framework and grid I don’t quite see a lot of possibility where we would get back on that..
I’ve indeed passed on point 7 to our developers team as a bug that would require fixing. That one should get solved.

Thanks Kevin, never mind about sidebar, I have changed it.
Another problem here, I guess this is the last.
8. There is not complete compatibility with Safari. The sliders are not working and 2/3-1/3 grid is broken. Please compare my homepage on Chrome and Safari and you will notice it.

Hi Puru,
I’m afraid I don’t see any differences (safari and chrome on Windows7 machine). did you manage to solve the issue, or is there still something happening for you?

Safari is still giving me issues. However I am on Win XP. Will do more testing and let you know.

First thank you for the update finally come!
I have the same problem about my blog : http://www.fotup.com/wp/blog-2/ – it doesn’t show excerpts.
Any idea about it? this is really awful to see!
Thank you

Hi Kevin,
I also have a problem since I did the upgrade. I have some Layered Sliders with the in out move effects set to Linear and the in out transitions set to Fade. I have noticed that my photos jump now and even though I have played around with different effects nothing seems to change. Example: http://www.speegra.com/category/artists/
Any ideas how I can get back to the smooth transition effect that I had before?

Hi Jane,
Do you mean the way they slide out to the top left corner and in from the top right a little bit? Or is there something else happening that I’m missing? Perhaps on a specific slide?
Kevin
-
at #12212Jane HenleyMember
Yes Kevin That’s it. Before they were smooth like the Royal Slider I’ve temporarily put on the home page
But now they are all jerky.

Hi Jane, could you share a screenshot of your slider’s setup? I’d like to recreate the slider on my test page.
Kevin

Sure Kevin. Here’s the setting with the first photo. Al the other photos have the same settings.

Kevin, also:
We’re having a couple of problems with the Tabbed Area Widget.
We’re using the Tabbed Area Widget with WooCommerce Layered Nav to give visitors a compact way to narrow their selection.
One problem is that when the list of shop items is shorter than the list of possible choices in a WooCommerce Layered Nav, the web page is too short to show whole Tabbed Area Widget, and some of its content extends over the page footer.
The other problem is that the contents of the WooCommerce Layered Navs (lists of product attributes) are sometimes correct and sometimes not. Making selection and choosing different tabs in the Tabbed Area Widget results in unpredictable and unexpected lists of product attributes.
You’re welcome to try this for yourself at http://speegra.com/shop

Hi Jane,
I can’t quite manage to recreate that slider. Could you grant me admin access to your website so I can take a look at it right on the spot?
If you wish me to take a look you can send me details via e-mail to kevin(a)theme-dutch.com

I see what you mean with the tabbed navigation and I’ll inform our developers about it so they can take a look at fixing that.
|About the last part, sometimes correct and sometimes not, you mean that somtimes there are actually things in the lists that do not belong there? Or do you mean the fact that the lists sometimes do and sometimes do not display properly (which I found was happening as I was playing around with them on your website).

Hi Jane,
I went to check your sliders but haven’t quite found what’s causing it. I’m now checking with our developers to see what they can say about this.

OK, so you don’t advise to change the width of the sidebar back to what it was before.
But can you show me where the change the width of the sidebar in the Nivo slider? As now my caption text is completely out of alignment with the rest of the sidebar below it.
See screenshot attached. Site: http://www.voxharmony.org.au

Never mind – found it:
.nivo-caption {
width: 31.9%!important;
}
