I am having a hard time with blog thumbnails and featured images. Is there a way to edit so it doesn’t crop them in half or a plugin that would provide alternative display options?
post page:
http://flivindev2.iohcreative.com/save-the-date-for-the-next-flivin-event/
featured image is cropped at the top of the page. I tried a suggestion from another post in this forum to set the max height to auto and that doesn’t work. Here’s my current custom css to try to fix this:
.featured-image {
margin-bottom: 15px;
height: auto!important;
width: 99%;
}
blog page: (client doesn’t like the image on the left and wants a larger, uncropped image, plus it doesn’t show a summary, it displays the whole blog post on the blog page and we want just a summary)

thanks!

I’m also having problems with the footer not showing up. I’ve tried the default settings and set them all to read footers 1-4, and the page edit layout to read footers 1-4, and the default “none” repeats at the footer and I can’t seem to change that no matter what I do.

Regarding the footer issue:
footer shows up correctly on blog, shop, and buddypress pages, and seems to show up on blank pages, but not any standard page with content.
home page shows repeated footer: http://flivindev2.iohcreative.com/
also about page, contact page and #flivin page.
Is there a custom css that will fix this?

Hi Lauren,
I believe the issues with the featured images and the way they are being displayed can really only be altered by making changes to the code. I’m afraid code- level support is something that exceeds what we can provide as free support.
Regading the summary / full post issue if this doesn’t change by altering the way posts are displayed in a blog in settings -> reading then I believe someone else is also having this issue and I’m having the exact opposite of it on a test site of mine. I’ve informed our developers about this so they can take a look at all of that.
As for the footers, are you sure all the correct footer sidebars have been added in the page options? As it does display a footer of some sort..

yes, I set each page and the default pages to display the 4 column footer, and set which footer to point to for each one and it seems that part of the theme is not functioning correctly.

Hi Lauren,
Just for the record, you are indeed using Mikmag2.0, correct? What WP-version are you on?
What’s strange to me is the fact that these footers do work properly on pages of our demo website (http://theme-dutch.compresents/mikmag/typography/ is just a regular page). That website is using mikmag2.0 with WP3.5.1 I posted a screenshot of the footer setup on that page.
The footer sidebars have been properly populated with widgets, right? appearance -> Widgets (also see second screenshot).

I”ve narrowed it down to the woocommerce plugin. When the plugin is active, the footer drops off.
The widget settings are all there. Using Mikmag 2.0 and WP 3.5.1
I turned off all plugins and reactivated one at a time and it is the woocommerce that makes them drop off. I tried disabling woo’s css and that didn’t fix it. any ideas?
I even have 2 dev sites right now. thought it might be a database issue but did it on the clean dev as well.
Here’s the original dev: http://flivindev.iohcreative.com
the only activated plugin right now is woocommerce and you’ll see the footers aren’t on the home page.

To show you the difference, these 2 dev sites have the same widget settings
this dev has woocommerce activated and the “none” footer repeats at the bottom despite the settings:

this dev does not have woocommerce activated and the footer shows up correctly:

Hey Lauren
That’s fairly strange in a way.
We’re using woocommerce on our demo page as well and don’t appear to be having any issues with that.
However, having narrowed it down will help us find what might be the cause. Could you tell me what version of woocommerce you are currently running?Kevin

I thought it was strange too, since this theme is buddypress and woocommerce compatible. I am using woocommerce 2.0.10
I deactivated and reactivated all the other plugins and none of the others seem to affect it at all and everything else works great except the footers with the woo plugin. store part looks great. Just really need to fix this today though because the footers are crucial! If you have any ideas to try I would appreciate it.

And one more blog-elated question:
the “Related Items” title overlaps the words “related items” and the thumbnails at the bottom of posts:
Is that something you’re working on changing? or is there a way to remove the “related items” from the pages?
thanks, appreciate your help!

Let me know if you need admin access for a day. I have the site done except for this crucial issue and would like to have it resolved as soon as possible. Thanks!

Hi Lauren,
We’re using that version of Woocommerce as well on http://www.theme-dutch/presents/mikmag/. I wouldn’t quite know what might be causing the issue but I believe it wouldn’t be a bad thing for me to check the back-end part of your website. See if I can find anthing different than on ours.
You can send me the login credentials to kevin(a)theme-dutch.com Please do add a URL to this topic so I’ll know what I’m looking for.
As for the related posts issue. The misalignment of the related posts title is something on our bugs list and will be fixed. At this moment I can’t quite give an estimate on when the fix will be available though.
If you wish to remove them for now, the only way would currently be through editing the theme’s code.

Hi Kevin,
Did you receive my email with the admin access? I have a client waiting on this and this is the last step to completion so if I could get some input today I would appreciate it!

Hi Kevin,
We’re going on 7 days now and I really need to get this issue fixed. We bought this theme and this is a base functionality that is not working. Client is waiting and I really need answers asap. I’ve gone too far to start over with a new theme. I haven’t heard back in 2 days and really need an answer. thank you!

Hi Loren:
1) Crop your feature image to 1140 x 200 px and it will display perfectly in all side bar configurations.
2) Remove the text from related items thumb nail, problem solved. I see only one thumbnail, are there others?
3) Odd behavior, trying to recreate the conditions on a current project.
4) Sounds like there is a mischievous ghost in the machine creating havoc. Something is interfering with the theme.
Will note a replicated environment in this thread.
Be be awesome 🙂

Thanks for all of that! At this point I have everything solved except the footer issue. It happened on backupbuddy transfer and a new clean install, so I’m not sure what would be causing the problem. It only happens when woocommerce plugin is installed.

You are welcome Lauren.
WooCommerce updated their plugin to 2.0.11 about 21 hours ago as the previous version was problematic.
With a little luck it will work for you.
Glad to hear your other problems have gone away.
Have a better one. 🙂

Hi Lauren,
I understand how you’d like to get things done as soon as possible but I hope you can understand that with our premium support packages we guarantee response within the workday, however our free support is done on a more voluntary basis so we try to attend to it as much as we can whenever we get the time. That means it could happen that there may be a few days delay sometimes.
I went to take a look and try a few things with your woocommerce settings but nothing appeared to change the footer issue, so I changed everything back to the way it was. I’ll go inform with our developers to see if they have an idea of what the issue might be.
For the time being, I do notice I haven’t asked you to try and re-install the theme yet. It often happens that tre-installing the theme solves strange issues caused by files getting corrupt in down- or upload. For this you want to download a fresh version from theme-forest, once a them has been bought it can be re-download for free. Remove (or rename for backup) the currently installed theme and install the freshly downloaded one. see what happens. If it’s caused by a corrupted file, this might just solve it.
If not, do let me know and I’ll get back to you with the information I get from our programmers

Hmmmmmmmm…. something is interrupting the action. I am wondering if something was introduced.
Have you tried to overwrite the existing theme files with a fresh copy? I am wondering if something corrupted with the backup process.
What about PHP version and memory? Do you have enough?
You may want to repair your MySQL tables and optimize them in case there is some residual activity running interference especially if there have been a lot of changes and deletions.
My personal favorite is WP-DBManager available in the WP repository. Make sure you have everything backed up in case there is a hiccup somewhere.
I will see if I can recreate it on my test server.
Hang in there Lauren, there is an answer somewhere, we just need to find it.

Thanks guys, we already did the clean install on a new dev and it was still happening. Is there a site you can show me that has woocommerce installed with a working footer on the home page?
-
at #12022James WooldridgeMember
Hi Lauren, the Mikmag example has working footers with WooCommerce installed. When you say home page not working and others are, that suggests something on the home page is preventing the footer from loading.
You may want to explore what is being called as there may be a hook from somewhere preventing the page from functioning correctly.
We are getting closer to solving this mystery.

It’s not just the home page…it’s any non-buddypress/woocommerce/blog page. so there are 3 that are just standard pages and it doesn’t work on any of them. so weird! I’ve been racking my brain. It does the same thing without any page content.

Hang in there Lauren, there is an answer and we will find it. I am working on a project and will see if I can replicate what you are experiencing. Until then…
Have a great weekend.

Can anyone tell us where and what file now replaces the single.php for blog posts? I’ve been digging around and haven’t found it yet.
I’d like to remove featured images from showing in the header of blog posts but not from other functions like category sliders and homepage, etc. I know I could use CSS (display:none) but that still seems to leave a gap in the body head above the content.
EDIT: Derp, I noticed you guys included a hide featured posts option in Mikmag theme options now 😉 Thanks! Wouldn’t hurt to know what that file is anyways in case I need it later.

I’m not sure if someone went in there or it’s something I did, but the footers are fixed all of a sudden! Did someone find out what the issue was? If so, thank you!!!

Hi iohcreative,
I don’t believe anyone has (at least not from ThemeDutch, don’t know if you’ve given anyone else access but we never give away any login details to anyone). Have you got any automatic updates enabled on wordpress / plugins that might have solved this or has your hosts done updates on their servers?
Either way, I’m glad it’s solved!
