Mikmag version 2.2
Wordpress version 3.7.1
Somehow all of my sidebars have disappeared. It probably happened when I was updating the background image of the site. The site is currently not showing the sidebars.
In the MikMag admin when I click on Sidebars the list is empty. When I try to add a new one by clicking on Add nothing happens.
When I check the Widgets section it shows Inactive sidebars which contain the widgets as previously configured.
My guess is that somehow the Sidebar entryies have disappeared from the database or the list cannot be retrieved anymore because of some data issue.
How can I retrieve a list of sidebars from the database?
Which records should I add to restore the sidebars?
Thanks in advance for any prompt replies!

Hi Roland,
I’ve got two things in mind that it might be.
The first one would be an incompatibility with your current wordpress version. Mikmag is currently compatible up to 3.6(.1) . Perhaps you’ve updated your wordpress and that’s what started the malfunction.
A second thing could be something I’ve seen happening quite some time ago in some of our older themes. I don’t remember if this was exactly what happened to them as well as a result but here’s what went wrong. The issue back then was when people used quotes (single ‘ or double ” quotes) in their sidebar names. That would mess up the query retrieving the sidebars from the database. Removing that one sidebar from the database was then the solution to the issue.
Kind regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your reply. First I am able to do. The second thing I was allready trying to do, but I can’t figure out in the database how to retrieve only the sidebar items. Can you specify the query for this?

Roland

Hi Roland,
I’ve looked up an older topic in which someone was also having issues with sidebars that had disappeared. In his case it was because of a quote (‘) being featured in the sidebar’s name.
I worked out how to remove that one faulty sidebar from the database in a fairly detailed description so I’ll link you towards that.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your reply. I’va managed to get the sidebars working . The quote was not the problem in my case. The core_sidebars value was completly empty in my DB. How this happend, I don’t know. This keeps me a bit nervous, but at least I know how to solve it. If it happens again I’ll investigate the root cause further.
Regards,
Roland

Hi Roland,
That’s quite strange indeed… |Good to see you managed to solve it though. Hope things will run smoothly from now on.
Kind regards,
Kevin
