Why does my background show up differently on each page? I am using the same image for every single post/category/page/archive/etc. background, but it resizes it when I jump from between pages/posts.
I had really high hopes for this theme and they are getting crushed with every problem I run into. It’s starting to really make me angry.

Kevin,
Before you get angry about something so simple, I have one question for you….Have all your post/category/page/archive/etc exactly the same length?

Nope..and I’m thinking that I didn’t explain it fully. Let me include a couple of links to some screenshots for you to see exactly what I mean. They are scaling in and out. It isn’t just a matter of height in question. I will show you what I’m talking about in these screenshots. Hopefully they will help me better explain everything, as I know I wasn’t as clear as I should’ve been on the first question – I apologize for that.
The size of the background image is 2400×1200
Here are the screenshots:

The only thing I can see is wrong, there is a double scrolbar.
The first 2 screenshots are pages with no content, so what do you expect on how it will look like.
The second ones are with a lot of content, so the image will be stretch out.

The double scrollbar is from my screenshot software…it’s screwing up today.
If you look…every single page has the background a different size. None are the same size. This makes no sense….I’m completely confused. Why would it arbitrarily stretch and resize the image (sometimes it even stretches it to triple its original size. Why would it do that if the image is more than wide enough and more than tall enough? Why is it stretching it at all actually….that really makes no sense. Shouldn’t it be fixed?
If it’s standard to have it do that, can you share with me where in the stylesheet I would change the backgrounds to be fixed to avoid all of this resizing stuff?

No Kevin there is nothing to be fixd.

I’m sorry Kevin this extends the free support we offer. But we do have premium support accounts. http://theme-dutch.comshop/

Are you serious Mike? Is this some kind of joke? What happened to Custom Service? You won’t even agree with me that the background shouldn’t resize like that? Can you do me a favor and find me another website that automatically stretches the background image instead of using a fixed position background image? Because I’ve never seen one before.

We opened these forums in order to help clients, or give clients the possibility to help each other. It is of main importance that we all use appropriate behavior and respect one another. Our themes are fully featured and highly customizable, but there always will be clients that want something that’s not in the theme or want it different. This is unavoidable, but true. If we receive a lot of the same requests we always consider it in an update. We’re sorry, but your request is not one of them, and sometimes you just need to respect that.

Alright @Mike. I took a step back since my last communication with you and I want to apologize for being so rough. I’m extremely stressed out and my intentions were never to come across like an a-hole. I feel that I have so I apologize for that. I’m going to respond to these threads professionally and try to gain some resolution. I agree that this theme is packed with quite a few features and it also has a really really nice and smooth design (which is what attracted me to it). There are a lot of magazine themes, but yours is definitely one of the best and it trumps the others as it has woocommerce and buddypress already integrated in it.
Alright, so Mike. I understand where you are coming from about feature requests, but to be honest, I don’t see how anyone would ever want their background to function like this, nor have I ever seen, modified or built one that did. That being said, I’m sure I can go into the css and change the way the background image is displayed, but to be honest, the only reason I’m asking for this is because I need it in the theme, since I cannot build a child theme to put all of my customizations in. If I could build a child theme – which I’m sure is possible one way or another – I wouldn’t be bothering you guys for any of these functions, as I would have just hard coded them into my child theme without bothering you guys. But I’m scared to continue with this theme knowing that when updates come, I will be scrambling to reinput all of my customizations and functionalities that I add.
To be honest, and I’m sure you don’t see them all, as you handle support here, but @Helen has had multiple people with the same background resizing and rescaling issues that I’m having.
I can fully understand about the feature requests as you will see on my next update to our layouts thread.

The background will stretch and will display differently because the background image will depend on the width and height of the page, the image is scaled to the smallest size such that both its width and its height can fit inside the content area.

I see what you mean @LeNur. And I’m sure I can go into the css and change this to suit my needs, however, my biggest concern is figuring out a way to make a child theme. That is my top priority. Without a child theme, I can’t really make customizations the way I would like to because they will all be lost when you update the theme. It’s such an amazing theme, but without being able to make a child theme I’m in trouble and I cannot finish the project. This is a personal project and so I don’t have funds to pay someone to spend the necessary time trying to figure out how to make a child theme work, that’s why I was hoping that someone from Theme Dutch would be able to chime in and tell me how they got the child theme to work on Theme-Dutch.com so I could duplicate the process.

Hi Kevin,
I just tried Mikmag as a child theme and it works. However, if you want to have custom templates for archive, category, single or page templates, it may not work.

Here is what I get when I follow the standard wordpress codex for child themes:
http://i46.tinypic.com/veozt5.png
As you can see it spans the page across the entire screen, rather than keeping the styles…also it seem to organize the footer sidebars vertical rather than horizontally.
I’m sure that if we move certain folders and files over, we can achieve success, I’m just having a rough time figuring out which files/folders need to be migrated over to the child theme so far.

Lenur…first of all, thank you for your attention on this matter. I know that a child theme would help a lot of people out and probably minimize support questions when you do updates. I’m including a link to child theme instructions used for another buddypress theme that I’ve used for another project. I know that both of your themes are completely different, however, I’m wondering if their steps may help get closer to determining which steps we need to take to create a fully functioning MikMag Child theme.
I am trying to utilize the codex instructions, the instructions above and some trial and error to figure this out, but so far I’m not having any luck. I have another theme I can use for this project, but MikMag is probably 1,000 times better for my needs and I really want to use MikMag because it is pretty damn awesome. It has so much functionality and incredible design. Thanks in advance.
