Hi Folks,
I’ve got a vexing issue with the background image for my site not displaying properly on the iPad…
Here’s a video documenting the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psZJKkHMaPM
Here’s the URL to my site: http://69.195.124.72/~vitruvi9/
How do I fix this? I need to launch this site soon :/
Thanks

I wonder if the issue could be related to the retina display? I tried viewing the site on a MacBook Pro with retina display, and there was no problem… But clearly there’s an issue on the iPad :/
As I mentioned in my video, I can’t launch my site like this and I’ve already put a lot of work in on it, so I’m seriously hoping for a fix.

Davejay.
G’Day.
Sorry, I can’t help you with your issue as I don’t have an iPad, but I did want to congratulate you on a very nice and effective website .
Cheers,

Thanks, Windycityfella 🙂 It’s been a fair amount of work getting it all together. And I’m ready to launch, if I can just get this background-image issue addressed.

I need somebody there to address this issue, ThemeDutch. I was supposed to launch my site yesterday, but I can’t until this problem is resolved.

This problem doesn’t occur with the MikMag demo (www.responsive-wp-theme.com/v2/). Does this mean there’s a problem with the photo I’m using? What do I have to do to get an answer on this?

Alright, forget it. You win. I fixed it myself.
But I have to say, this is no way to run tech support. Your customers shouldn’t have to resort to code-level tinkering to restore basic functionality to a software product. Nor should they have to pay extra to get you to fix your bugs. I can’t help but think that someone there could have done in 5 minutes what’s taken me 5 days to figure out and put me behind schedule.
Thanks for all the helpful feedback.

Can you tell me how you fixed this as I have exactly the same issue. I have two sites on different hosting servers, one displays the background image fine and the other doesn’t. Any suggestions?
thanks

Hi Louise,
The second website you provided us with appears to be non-functional. I believe the link might be incorrect. Could you check that please?

Sorry Kevin. The site was moved to another server due to an image upload problem (HTTP error) in WordPress. It is back online now. I still have the same problem with background image not appearing.
Also have a problem with Nivo slider not cycling through images. You seem to have the same problem in your demo (http://www.responsive-wp-theme.com/nivo-slider/). Just stays stationary on the first image.
Thanks,
Louise

[fixed the nivo slider problem – set manual start to “false” in nivo-slider.php]

Still no luck with background image on ipad and iPhone. Could this be server related?

Both web sites are now functional and although the backend settings of MikMag are exactly the same, one shows a background image and the other doesn’t.
Any thoughts anyone?

Hi Louise,
I’m not entirely sure on this one, I’ve checked both sites on my iPod touch, our demo does appear to have the background image, your website doesn’t. I’m unsure what exactly is causing this but I doubt it could be something in the theme if it does work on one website and not the other..

Thanks for looking into this anyway, Kevin. I thought it might have something to do with the image itself, but uploading a new image did not help. The site is live now so don’t want to be playing around with it too much.
One other thing though, when I browse on iPhone, iPod, the “navigate to…” option bar only displays on internal page. The Home page just has the one menu option of “HOME” in the menu bar and therefore navigating to other pages can only be done through links elsewhere on the page. This does not happen on the other site or on your demo either.
All pages use the same template, what could be going on here?
Thanks again,
Louise -

Here’s what worked for me:
Open your style.css file and scroll down to the responsive layout rules. Under the /* iPad Portrait */ and /*iPad Landscape */ sections, add the following line of code:
body {background-size:115% !important;}
Depending on your image size, 115% might be too much. You can try 100%, or any size you like, really… The important part is the
!important;
part.That should do it. If it doesn’t work, then I can’t help you… I’m not a developer.
Good luck.

Thanks for your quick response, David!
That’s good advice although it is not working for me yet, you have pointed me in the right direction. I hadn’t thought of looking at this part of the stylesheet yet.
Thanks again,
Louise
