Hi There, If a group in Buddypress is created no user gets acces, even if the group is set to ‘public’ and/or user is invited. There is always show “This is a hidden group and only invited members can join.” Only the admin user can access the groups. Other users can’t even acces groups they have createt on their ons.
I testet this function on my WP Installation with the Buddypress-Default theme. -It worked without any problems.
(WP 3.5, MikMag 1.3.2, no active plugins)
I hope MikMag will be updated very soon. THX, Gabriele

Hi Gabriele,
We’re using some groups ourselves on this website and aren’t having the problems you describe. I believe the issue might be caused by a mikmag vs WP3.5 incompatibility problem, we’re still on 3.4.2 on this website. We’re currently working on getting our themes updated to full WP3.5 compatibility so this issues should be solved in the update for mikmag.

Hey Kevin,
I downgraded to 3.4, the problem is still the same. Users can’t access groups, even If they have created them on their own. If you give me an mail adress, I can give you acess to my site.THX,
Gabriele

Hi Gabriele,
That’s fairly odd, mainly since we use the groups pretty actively ourselves..
We strive to keep all our support on these forums and the ticket system for premium members, The forums have a private messaging option, you could send them to me as a private message if you’d like, I’ll have a look and compare what’s happening on both our websites.

I purchased 3 months of support back when we got this theme early on, however, we are hoping this issue will be addressed in a theme or a simple code/file update since we know you are striving to be BuddyPress compatible. Here are my comments:
We actually updated to WP 3.5 because the forum/groups was not working as Gabriele describes in the older version of WP. Our WP admin can create the group and level 1 and 2 members can join the group, even though it isn’t very intuitive as to how to join. Then the level 1 & 2 members can add a forum topic and post. They can also see all the forum posts on the gr0up forum page, but when they select a link to view one of the forum posts even if it is their own, whether logged in or as a visitor, they receive the error “This is a hidden group and only invited members can join.” It is a public group.
We also disabled MikMag and tested using two different themes one of the freebie WP themes and one we purchased and abandoned early on in our development. Both perform this function properly.
We do have an offering to hopefully get your attention….our developer has a code update that will fix the social icons when you add your own custom icons to the MikMag header….

Hi Beverly,
I’m copying something I posted in another topic yesterday (as you may not have seen it there)
Hi,
We are currently working hard to overcome some staffing issues we’ve been having since one of our developers left back in December. We have been reviewing our schedule and have rescheduled the WP3.5 updates for both the Mikmag as well as the James theme to another developer to work on with priority. For these themes I expect the updates to come in soon.
Kevin
I’ve also forwarded your offer for the sociable code, I believe this might have already been taken care of for the next update though, if not, you will hear from me about that.

Hey,
As you see, I’m not the only one with this problem. I found topics in that forum, older than three month (http://theme-dutch.comwordpress-support/topic/big-issue-with-buddypress-groups/) discribing it. Your answer, that it works for you were just the same. Its good for you that MikMag and Buddypress are working fine on this page. But obviously for some of your paying cutomers it dosen’t.
I choosed MikMag because a made excelent expirience with Theme Dutchs “Screen” in the past. Since I am using MikMag I got four big bugs wich made it just unusable for me. At all of theese if found people here in the forum, having exactly the same problems. You guys are telling all the time that this is a problem of of WP 3.5 and it works fine for you on your own page. So I spend hours with upgrading, downgrading and checking functions with default themes with only one result: MikMag 1.3.2 is not working!
I guess you already recocnized the ratings an comments on theme-forest. They are telling the same. You are talking about providing an upgrade since weeks, but nothing happens.
I spend a lot of money for professional photographers, making footage fitting exactly into the extrem wide layout of Migmag. I have to launch my new site on SUNDAY but its fare away from working.
Sorry guys, but somthing needs to happen very quick! Please stop telling us about your own great working site and provide an update in the nearest future.
THX,
Gabriele

Any updates on fixing this issue? Did I miss an update?
We have sales people who will be selling our site’s memberships starting in a week, and we need to use the groups/forum as the blog tool for our members. We need to successfully enable this feature of BuddyPress because that is what we used to build the member profile! With Groups/Forum our members will easily be able to blog on the site. (Nobody wants to support members if they try and blog using WordPress!) This is real money we are talking about for our company. Right now MikMag is keeping us from deploying this feature! Please, help! — I hope we have better results when we start using WooCommerce!!!

Hi,
Work on the mikmag update is progressing, this problem with the buddypress groups is on the list of issues to be tackled in this update. The update to fix this problem hasn’t come out yet so Beverly you didn’t miss it, it’s in construction at this moment.

Hi Beverly,
with the release of woocommerce 2.0, which is very much different than the older versions of woo, there has been quite an additional workload on updating all our woo-enabled themes. It’s really impossible for me to give a good estimate of the time remaining until we are ready to release our theme update because big compatibility updates like these are always full of surprises for ourselves as well, it’s pretty much impossible to predict what our programmers might bump into.

Happy Monday!!! I thought it was time to check in and ask for an update to your last update.
Although I understand this is a big release to work on, in our operation we have to provide timeframes to our management on our site’s upgrades! I hate to miss dates also, but of course, sometimes we move them forward…
All we are requesting is a little code fix for the BuddyPress group/forum so it recognizes the difference between public and private when posted to the forum page, not a great big woocommerce release. In my imaginary world, one of your code developers takes a well-deserved break from the woocommerce project, fixes buddypress and then returns refreshed and has a huge break-through for woocommerce.
Seriously, we really do need this update to round out the promised features for our members on our website: vitalitydirectory.com – take a peak at how good MikMag makes us look!!! Thanks!

Beverley.
G’Day.
I just had a look at your website and wanted to give you a shout out for a very well created site. Very impressive. Great layout and content. And like you I’m also waiting for the updates to Mikmag and a couple of other Theme-Dutch themes that I have as I have an international sporting organisation whose website I am redoing and have been wanting to use Mikmag, but time is quickly running out.
And I have a question about your website. When I click on the Vitality Locator or Promotions menu items, the page appears to identify what county I am located in. How is this being achieved ? What plugin are you using?
Thanks in anticipation.
Cheers,

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Thanks for the compliment, we worked hard on this site!! We paid a database developer to create a custom Google Geo function that works for the Locator, Promotions and Events pages. No plug in unfortunately!!!
Still waiting for the update of this theme so the Buddy Press Group/Forum function works!!!
