Hi,
I just purchased the MikMag theme today (11/14//2013) and there are no instructions on how to install the dummy-content.zip file. I also read the complete instruction manual and I cannot find where the “how to” is referenced in instruction manual located in the current download package.
Can you please explain how to install the dummy-content.xml file?
Thanks
Marc TYRO

Hi Marc,
Your theme download should contain a folder called “Mikmag-DummyContent” That folder should contain a manual on installing the dummy content. If for any reason it is not present in your theme files, please let me know and I’ll see how I can get you the manual.
Kind regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the quick response. My zip file was named “dummy-content.zip” and that file only “contained dummy-content.xml”. There was no instruction manual or phpMy Admin file.
CAN YOU PLEASE SEND ME THE DUMMY CONTENT FILE AND INSTRUCTIONS ASAP. You can email it to tyrobroadcasting-at-gmail.com
Thanks, Marc TYRO
Suggestion:
Good to see that you have a sticky in the forum, but it would be more helpful if you put the actual installation instructions in the sticky, not just list where the information can be found.
Your sticky should read, “Here is how to to install the Dummy Content – Step 1, Step 2, Step 3 Blah Blah Blah. Note: Instructions for this can also found in the Mikmag-DummyContent folder.”
As a forum owner myself, over the years I have learned that people don’t always want to “correspond” in forums. In my experience, in technical forums, they just want information/help as soon as possible.
I have atached the file that came with my download package.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for your input I’ll make sure to pass that on!
I’ll be trying to get my hands on the dummy content file during the weekend, I don’t have access to it from here myself so I’ll try and see if I can get it from someone else during the weekend. Otherwise I’ll send it to you monday.
Kind regards,
Kevin

Hi Marc,
After some more searching and a chat with someone from our development team it appears the latest update is indeed missing a file in that folder.
Mainly, here’s what you can do
Go to Tools > Import then select “WordPress”.
You will need to install the Worpress importer Plugin
Browse for the dummy-content.xml and click “Upload file and import”
Kind regards,
Kevin

Come’on Kevin,
I’m trying not to act insulted. BUT, I did that….even with no instructions. I assumed that was the correct way, but the problem is that the files are NOT downloaded when I do that.
Try it for yourself, and tell me what happens. (and yes, I increased my file upload size to 900mb)
Anything else I should try?

Also – Has anyone that has purchased this theme had success importing the dummy-content XML data file and had success with their site looking like a replica of the demo site?
This is the most money I spent for a theme, and honestly I feel “dupped” about the dummy-content. The dummy-content really helps me understand how the theme works. This is the 1st theme that advertises dummy-content, which doesn’t look like the demo.

Hi Marc,
Sorry, that was not intended to be insulting in any way, it just wouldn’t be the first time that “stating the obvious” would actually solve someone’s issue.
I have in fact tried installing the dummy content this way, prior to telling you it. It got me all the pages with the different shortcodes being used as shown on the demo site.
It does still require you to set up the back-end wordpress things like selecting the menu, and sidebars as those are things we can’t do through XML, as well as loading sliders.
We’re working to find a better way of providing dummy content. It’s something we’ve been doing since the very beginning. We’ve tried SQL imports, a button that would download and install dummy content from our servers and a lot of other things over time. We just sill haven’t found what appears to be the best way to handle this. For our next mikmag update we are planning to change quite some things again in terms of dummy content but that’s all not very close to release yet.
I understand how in this somewhat stripped down version it’s not particularly ideal as you do miss things like set-up sliders and widget areas. Our main aim for the dummy content in this case was to show how to use the shortcodes and with that set up pages like they exist on our demo site. It does do that.
If there is anything on our demo page though, that you are looking to recreate but have trouble doing so, you may of course feel free to link me to it so I can go check out how we did it.
Kind regards
Kevin

I have to assume I’m missing something. I keep getting an error that says “Failed to import media”. Has anyone that has purchased this theme had success importing the dummy content XML data file and had success with their site look like the demo site?
