  For this, you’ll need to change some code in the theme files. It’s not part of the theme’s main functionality.

  usually good themes (and we work with a lot of different themes) open links from a social icon in a new window (or at least offer the option to do so) – it is simply useful and a basic requirement. i think it is a basic functionality and you should offer it anyway in your theme.
