    G’Day.

After having installed the Beta version I have two comments/suggestions:

    1. The actual installation of this version has to be undertaken by the FTP process. With the varying expertise of users/potential users, I would suggest that the ability to install the theme via the WordPress Theme installer process be included in the final version.

    2. In the WordPress backend, the Mikmag theme options tab is part of the Appearance tab. While this is understandable, I would suggest that it have it’s own tab/placement. I have seen other themes have their options tab separate from others, generally at the botttm of the tab lists. This would make it much easier for the inexperienced user to find and use.

    Cheers,

    Michael.

If you have Winzip or Winrar you can simply zip up the new MikMag folder yourself and upload that as per usual - that’s what I did. I suspect this was an oversight by Theme Dutch as we were pressuring them to release the BETA to us as early as possible - but I am sure that Theme Dutch plan to provide it in zipped format prior to general release of MikMag 2.

Agree with what you have said. I was just wanting to point out the issue so that the Theme-Dutch people didn’t forget. It is interesting to read in the various Comment sections on different themes how many people struggle to actually get their theme installed when the developers gives a zip that has more than the zipped theme inside it. It really needs to be made simple for people.

    Have a good weekend.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

If I am not mistaken, we usually upload the themes as a zip that needs to be unzipped and will contain new zips (and folders) inside. Including the theme zip and some other files like manuals etc. One unzip is pretty much necessary in order for us to provide the other files.

As for the theme option placement. We used to have it as a menu button at the very beginning. If I remember well, we changed that because wordpress preferred it to have themes listed under the appearance tab, though I wasn’t yet around at that time.

I concur with Windycityfella regarding the tab location. A separate tab placement for Mikmag with a nice icon is a convenient feature on a working site for a busy developer.

With regards to installation, come on guys, this is kindergarten stuff. With respect, how idiot proof does a basic installation process have to be? It is a fundamental understanding, a prerequisite to any folder structure and root directory understanding… Web 101.

    James,

    G’Day.

Thanks for your support re the placement of the Mikmag tab on the Admin Dashboard.

As for the issue of how the theme is installed, yes, all developers would know what to do,and I agree with you tat it is a trivial matter from that viewpoint. But, I was more thinking from the novice /general public standpoint. Keeping it easy and simple would help to cut down on basic comment queries on both the ThemeForest comments section and the Support Forum here. When I read thru the commenst sections on other Themes, I am amazed at some of the basic questions being asked.

Just trying to make this theme a ‘Go To’ one.

Cheers and have a great weekend.

    Hi guys

MikMag has lots of great features but if I were not relatively experienced with HTML/CSS/WP and a smattering of php, I would not have been able to get the same results with it. Having said that I think MikMag is very powerful and once the wrinkles are ironed out in the new release it will be a really great theme.

Perhaps Themeforest should show an “ease of use” score for new themes with developers being asked to rate their theme for ease of use so newbies could steer clear of any rated as experienced user required :) I was pleased to see Themeforest now show more information relating to user rankings so perhaps they will consider ease of use too in future.
