When creating a new blog post is there a way to set the default sidebar to a particular one? The default layout is always default to full screen. The sidebar whenever I choose a layout option default to Footer 1. I know that we can change the layout for certain pages for the default settings, but I don’t see where we can do this for individual posts? I also see where we can create as many sidebars as we want, but do not see how I can set any defaults?

    Hi Whitt,

I don’t believe it’s possible to change the default option. What it does is just load the list in the order it exists in which it appears in the theme-options, this list is ordered by the date the sidebars were created.

Could you tell me some more about how you changed the default on pages though? I might be missing something…

Hi Kevin, I believe this is done under the layouts option. In that section I am given several page layouts where I can determine how I want those pages set up. I was thinking if it can be done there, and on the Categories section, that it would be nice to do that for the posts. I guess in my line of thinking, setting up a category to show a specific layout option and sidebar, should carry over to the posts. Not sure if that makes sense? It would be nice to be able to set defaults for the sidebars and layouts then change as needed.

    Hi Whitt,

The layouts you choose in the “layout” part of the theme options are not setting a default for all pages. They are used for either the search page, the archive page, 404 page, author page or tag page (you can choose which one to edit with the tabs at the top).

This has been added so that every layout can be customized, every page one might end up seeing, category pages, pages, these special pages, posts, all of them.

I do think it’s an interesting thought you have for the post grabbing their category’s layout by default, I’m not sure though if everybody might think it’s handy or understandable, especially when adding a post to multiple categories and things like that.

I had seen an idea similar in a theme I was using before I discovered MikMag. You had the ability to create default layouts, and then choose whenever layout you wanted. This was complete with sidebars, customized footers, etc.
