Hi,
I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a serious issue with BuddyPress in MikMag. I’m using BuddyPress as a framework for online classes. I need to be able to restrict access to Groups (Classes in my case) to enrolled students only. The problem is when I set a group to be “closed” or “hidden”, members aren’t able to join even after they’ve been invited.
At first I thought this was a plug-in issue. I recorded a screen cast documenting the problem for a plugin developer which you can view here.
But this is not a plugin issue. I’ve tried disabling all plugins except BuddyPress and the problem persists. It only works correctly when I disable MikMag and use the default BuddyPress theme.
This is a theme-related problem, and I’m hoping for some help. I need to have this resolved as I’ve invested heavily in building my site with MikMag and require the ability to invite members to join hidden groups.
Best,
David
PS: I should also say that I’ve tried re-installing MikMag, in case this problem was caused by something I did by accident. No dice. The problem persists even after a fresh install of the theme.

12/11/2012 at 12:53 PM #8993Hi David,
Are you using anything other than only MikMag and Buddypress for this? Since we are actually using hidden groups with invited people on this very website. So that’s a little bit odd to me. Just looking to see if you are using any other plugins or things for this connection than just the two here.

12/11/2012 at 5:38 PM #9000It is odd, Kevin, but I just tried it again: I disabled everything other than MikMag and BuddyPress and the problem persists. The only way it works is to disable MikMag and use the BuddyPress default theme. I also tried re-installing MikMag in case I broke something, but that doesn’t work either. I’d be happy to set up a guest account for you on my site if you need to see for yourself.
13/11/2012 at 2:09 PM #9007Hi David,
I also have seen your post about problems with Buddypress and ‘hidden forums’. As you already know our forums work via Buddypress, and we use hidden forums as well, which work perfectly. People on these specific forums can invite eachother. Maybe you need to consider a premium support account (but we don’t ive support if third party plugins are used).

15/11/2012 at 5:22 AM #9029Helen, I’ll pay for premium support if you think you can fix the problem… I’m not sure what you mean by “but we don’t ive support if third party plugins are used”… This problem, as I’ve indicated, is unrelated to plugins as it persists when no plugins are activated. It only resolves when MikMag is deactivated in favor of the BP default theme… even after a fresh install.

WordPress 3.5The problem with the buddypress part of milkmag theme the groups forum isn’t working correctly even when you check the option to show the group forum to everyone and search engines it is still hidden on the theme. It seems like it is just an options problem.
this a problem with the theme I am using buddypress with another theme and it works correctly.
