    Hi people,

I sent you guys an email (in Dutch) last week, and you requested I submit this via your forum instead.

I purchased the Empress theme through Themeforest, and I have a couple of remarks and questions.

I love the back-end interface. Very well thought out and implemented. Ease of use is something your competitors could learn from as well. But there are a few things with this particular install that don’t seem to work quite right.

After upload and install and uploading the dummy content, there is precious little “default” markup and styling. Like with other themes I use, I was expecting the starting point to be visually similar to the demo. But it was not. I am trying to figure out if this is standard behaviour, or if something’s not right with the installation.

I am also experiencing multiple errors, due to non-existent sliders and footers

“WARNING: Sidebar with name “Footer 1″ not found, or has no widgets assigned to it.”

“WARNING: Could not find slider with slug name “mike-home”.”

Also, the main body background is not included with the theme, so it renders only the default background colour (which is black).

Again, I am trying to assess if this is a faulty install. I was hoping for some standard functionalities and sliders as a working example.

I am also using the woocommerce plugin. It seems to work properly, with the exception of the lightbox images. In product detail, the demo opens the images in a lightbox. After installation, my version opens the images in the parent window. That doesn’t seem like the intended functionality.

A pleasant surprise was that the display of multiple images (not shown in the demo) works well. It would be ideal if this also works in lightbox. Currently, these are also opened in the parent window.

    Ok, follow-up on this.

I started with a clean install

    1) install WP

    2)install woocommerce

    3)install Empress theme

    4)install dummy content

    5)import wp_options via phpmyadmin

This gives a completely different result compared to last time. However, it does solve several previous problems, mostly graphic in nature. Also the sliders work, if I assign them to the pages. That’s helpful. But it also created some other odd behavior, like the images in the shop not being resized.

I am also getting duplicate entry errors in my phpmyadmin, depending on what order I import. The included documentation makes no mention of import at all, so this is a little bit swinging in the dark.

    Hi Bas,

I think you did a fresh install but not a fresh database, this way you will get duplicate content. Just delete the pages and post you don’t need.

    Shop Woocommerce Images resized

You need to install and run http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/ and your images will be oke, this a something of woocommerce as you can change the size of the shop images.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the follow up.

With install I actually did dump the database beforehand. The order in which you install things seems to have more of an impact than expected. I also noticed that the option_ID’s don’t always seem to match the ID in the DB backup.

Another small detail is that the gravity form plugin, that’s used on the contact page, is not included in the install. Not a big deal, but you might want to include this in the documentation as well.

That solves like 95% of the issues. Great starting point….time to go wild with modding ;)

I followed the installation order above:

I started with a clean install (a completely new WP db)

    1) install WP

    2)install woocommerce

    3)install Empress theme

    4)install dummy content

    5)import wp_options via phpmyadmin
And I still get a duplicate key error in MySQL when importing the dummy options SQL file.

Did anyone else solve this? Am I doing it wrong?
