    G’Day.

Finally got my greasy hands on the Beta copy - my mistake as didn’t read my email fully, although can’t totally absolve gMail as well from the way its lists any attachments.

Anyhow, have been testing the two Sliders that come pre-packaged.

Am finding that the Layer Slider DOES NOT expand to 100%.

This is certainly true when there is no Widget or Sidebar area defined next to the slider.

Tested the same conditions with the Nivo Slider and that DOES ‘expand’ to 100%

    The images size is 960 x 300.

Tested it in both the Boxed and Full Width layouts with the same results.

Testing is being done on a localhost using the Desktop Server application.

And on the issue of ‘pre-packaged’ sliders. I certainly would suggest that strong consideration be given to the Slider Revolution being included, or in actual fact replacing the Layer Slider. While both of these sliders effectively do the same, it is far easier to work with the Revolution Slider than the Layer Slider - especially for the newer ‘developers’. And I note that many of the top selling themes on ThemeForest now have the Revolution Slider ‘pre-packaged’ with only one or two also having the Layer Slider.

    Cheers,

    Michael.

    Hi Michael,

Could you perhaps add a screenshot of the layer slider not filling 100%? I’m trying to recreate it but am unsure what I’m looking for exactly.

As for adding another slider I don’t expect we’ll be doing that for now but it might be something to consider in upcoming themes.

    Kevin,

    G’Day.

Okay, attached here is a screen shot of the front page.

As you can see, there is a gap on the right hand side. In the Layer Slider options for this I have it set at 100% width. And on the page that it is showing on, I have the Widget Area and Widget Sidebar options set to none. The inage size is 930×300.

As I mentioned, I have the same setting and images for the Nivo Slider on a different page and that works fine.

Cheers and have a good weekend.

    Michael.

That’s quite strange… I’ve got an example here using a 300×300 image (or something close to that) on my testsite..

Could you post a back-end screenie as well?

    Kevin,

    G’Day.

    Yes his is strange.

I’ve attached a copy of the backend of the Layer Slider for the one that I sent you the other day.

There is obviously something happening and I’m at a loss to know what. I’ve used different images (and size) in a new Layer Slider, had it on an internal Page and the same result. Yet I’ve used the same group of images with the Nivo Slider and it works fine. And I’ve even used them with the Revolution Slider and that works fine as well.

    Strange.

I’ll keep fiddling with it to see what the issue is maybe you might have an idea.

    Cheers,

    Michael.

    Hi Michael,

Any chance the image would fill up the space it has in width before filling it in height when resizing it?

What I mean with that is that the height to width ratio of the image is wider than the height to width ratio of the slider space.

I think something might go wrong when the resize hits the width boundaries before hitting the height boundaries.

If I’m not explaining this in an understandable way, please do tell. I’m having some trouble putting what I’m thinking into words here

    Kevin,

    G’Day.

Thanks for the reply and I think I understand what you are asking.

But, what I did still hasn’t worked.

I set up the Layer Slider at 100% Width and 480px Height
I then created three sliders that used images that were 480px x 480px.
And the result was the same - the images hadn’t been resized automatically to fill the full width of the Slider area.

It really is puzzling as the Nivo Slider works as it should and the Revolution Slider (which I have previously mentioned I prefer to the Layer Slider as both do effectively the same) also responds to full width when required.

Not sure where we go from here.

    Cheers,

    Michael.

    Hi,

That really is odd… Have you made any changes to the theme’s code by any chance?

If so, you could try saving the current theme as a backup and uploading the original one to see what happens. Might be something there.

Are any of the other beta testers having this issue?

    Kevin,

G’Day and apologies for not replying yesteday, as Iwas interstate all day.

So to answer your question, NO, I did not make any changes whatsoever to any of the code. Geez, with my limited CSS experience (and virtually no PHP experience) I’d be afraid to break the theme completely !

All I did was create a new WordPress site, on my localhost using Desktop Server, and install the theme. No dummy content was installed. I just created Pages and Posts, added my own images and started testing the theme.

Like you, I am at a bit of a loss as to what is happening, particularly as the Nivo Slider works fine and the installation of the separate Slider Revolution also works fine when set to Full Width.

The only last thing that I can consider trying is create a new website and see if I can replicate the issue again. I’ll probably try that tonight or tomorrow.

    Cheers,

    Michael.

    Hi Michael,

Ok, was just checking that to make sure as sometimes even minor changes can have strange effects on things.

I’m looking forward to hear from your experiences with the new site. If it keeps on happening, I think it would be good to hear from some other beta testers to see what they think about it… Quite frankly, I’m rather clueless of what it could be at this moment. Especially difficult since it’s on a localhost..

    Hi Guys:

An image size of 1130 x 300 works well with Layer Slider. With multiple layers it works perfectly using WordPress 3.6 Beta 3x running on PHP 5.4x

Smaller images position to the left. Experimented with varying sizes with same result until magic width of 1130 achieved. Perfection!

With hand held devices and laptop displays producing resolutions up to 326 ppi. That being said, you should increase your images to at least 92 ppi, and 132 ppi and insert them full size for best results.

Design for new and beautiful rather than limited bandwidth and legacy system compromises.

Have a great weekend and be awesome!

    :)

Mikmag uses the 1140 grid and images from 1140 px wide work well.

    News Flash: Layer Slider Update

After experimenting with the Layer Slider skins the min width needs to be 1140 px.

The layer slider works well with attractive skin options with a lot of programming latitude.

Recommend editing your images to a minimum of 1140 px and whatever height you want e.g. 300 or 400 plus px etc.at 132 ppi.
