G’Day.
Okay, so I’ve been extensively testing out the WooCommerce integration for this theme - particularly as I’m keen to use the theme for a new client that is setting up shop.
So, the good.
1. The integration works well and seemlessly. Congratulations.
2. One great selling point that Mikmag has that I am yet to see on many of the other popular themes is the ability to be able to individually style each of the WooCommerce pages - like Shop, Product, Cart, Checkout pages. This IS a great selling point - so let’s not lose it !
Now, the not so good
A. The two large black ‘buttons’ that appear when one moves the mouse over a product - saying ‘Add to Cart’ ‘View Details’. I’m not sure that I personally like them, but if I did I certainly don’t like the size of them ! (i) Can they be reduced in overall size, (ii) it appears that the theme overrides the available options in teh WooCommerce settings for these ‘buttons’, and (iii) can the color be changed from within the theme ?
B. There is a layout issue on the Shop Page relating to when the images for the Product Categories are shown. The images appear to be all left justified and sit effectively right on top of each other. There appears to be no padding or spacing. However, if the actual Products are displayed on this page, they are spaced out evenly in the designated columns and rows. Can this be rectified ?
Cheers and have a great weekend and Happy Mothers Day to all that celebrate it on Sunday.
Michael.
10/05/2013 at 8:20 PM #11573Hi Michael,
A. I believe this is just a design choice made by our designer
B. This second one, I’m not quite sure what you mean. Could you supply me with some screenshots?

G’Day again.
Item A. Appreciate that it is yor designers choice, and for my vote I don’t like it as I think it is way too obtrusive. But again, it’s Theme-Dutch’s call.
Item B. Attached is the screen shot from the Shop page that I set it for testing. You will see that the first row of images are all squashed up together - these are the images from the Product-Categories - while the second and subsequent rows have the images nicely spaced - these are the actual products.
In the WooCommerce Settings for Pages, you can set the number of columns that the Products can be displayed in, but there is no ability to set the column number for the Product-Categories. So this is probably set in the backend, and if not then there probably needsto be some code to allow for a nice styling.
Cheers and have a good weekend.
Michael.

As I’m fairly new to using woocommerce myself, I believe I’ve never used that option. (to add the images from categories there) Mind explaining me how to go about doing that so I can try it out and inform our developers?

G’Day again.
Okay, here are the steps and actions:
1. Obviously install and activate WooCommense and then accept the default pages.
2. In the Products Tab select Categories and add a couple of categories - like Soap, Jams, Teas - and give each one an image to identify it. These are the over-reaching categories for the products.
3. In the Products Tab select Categories and start adding one’s products. As an example, you would create/enter, say, a English Breakfast Tea, which you would allocate to the Tea category . And, say, Soft Face Soap, which you would allocate to the Soap category. And so on.
4. In the WooCommerce Tab select Settings and then the Catalog tab. The second option is the Shop Page Display. Here select the ‘Show Both’ option - which means to show the images from the Categories, which appear first and the actual products that are shown next. And this is how the Image that I included in the previous post above.
5. The layout for this page is done here: In the WooCommerce tab select Settings and then the Pages tab. At the bottom of this page is the Column and Product Control section. In the Column Count option I have selected 3.
As you can see from the image that I have attached, I have 3 Categories - Fantasy, Food, Images - and then all the individual products.
As I mentioned above, the issue is that the images relating to the Categories are all ‘squashed’ to the left, while all the images for the individual products are nicely aligned on each row.
And the other issue is that if I change the Column Count to say 4 then the first of the individual Product images moves to the top row and that row continues to be ‘squashed’ to the left. The other rows all remain nice and evenly spaced.
From my untrained coding eye, it would appear that the top row needs to have some CSS or PHP in the backend to align it nicely.
So, does all this make sense ?
Cheers,
Michael.
14/05/2013 at 4:38 PM #11649I think that does make sense, thank you. I wasn’t aware there was that way to display the categories. So basically, if I’m not mistaken it appears the show subcategories option (or the subcategories part when show both was chosen) are lacking proper styling?

G’Day again.
Basically, it’s a YES to what you have said.
And I did some further testing (which I should have done before sending off and starting this thread) re the display of Categories (called subcategories in WooCommerce).
Followig on from Point 4 in my previous posting, I selected the option to show just the SubCategories on the Shop Page - and YES, the styling is as mentioned before - the images are all next to each other (no padding) and on the left.
When I just selected to show the Products on the Shop Page, the images are all nicely aligned and spaced out.
So, yes, it has to do with the styling of how the SubCategories are displayed.
Cheers,
Michael.
15/05/2013 at 5:07 PM #11671Alright, grand!
I’ll post that on the developers site. Thanks for teaching me some more on woocommerce
