Continued from WordPress Beta 3.6 x Use post:

Mikmag continues to impress, awe inspiring to say the least.

From my experience and observations, most themes are “pretty boys” or “pretty girls” with this gizmo and that gizmo, soon all looking the same in a blur of less than memorable facades all looking alike. Visuals comprise their superficial, impressive look, where as the building blocks of raw ‘horse power’ is lacking. Hoards of users flock to them and that is where the story ends. They are designed for simple use for they are simple. If simple is what one looks for than simple it is.

Most theme designers default to the path of the least resistance camouflaging their work with window dressings comprised of images and words. We have all seen the “Oh Hum!” look.

However, when one wants to create something outstanding using the designer tools built into Mikmag and outstanding third-party plugins, one can create a master piece where the only limitation is a lacking imagination.

I see brilliance and daring with the Mikmag team pushing the design envelop to new levels of excellence. There are a few good themes, powerful creation tools and Mikmag is the best.

Take your time team to get it right, for there have been plenty of challenges in mastering new approaches. Just ask anyone who has ever attempted anything out of the ordinary. Anything worth while is always initially problematic and now you have it mastered with the final tweaks.

Mikmag is designed for simple use, yet it is far from simplistic.

Did I say I was impressed?

    :)

Superlatives abound! Did you swallow a dictionary James :)

To be brief: I concur with James so congrats to the Theme Dutch developer team - you have done a splendid job!

    HAhahahahahah… thanks Gail :)

I have been thinking and building up the courage to ask you Gail.

Your site is beautiful, well done. I am impressed for I see real talent. I can see your vision… go for it girl! Build it and they will come! I understand why you wanted the revised Mikmag.

I noticed you used #D1DEE9 (or there about) for the footer. Have you ever considered #361F0D, a colour taken from the lower left hand side background horse for more contrast, colour richness and strength?

You may want to reconsider and choose a colour from of a horse and you will be amazed at the transformation in increased pop and pizazz.

Creativity is subjective and I sincerely respect your decision, however I see real genius in your work. I may be wrong, but the colour from a horse may put you out front for a win of more than a length and influence more advertisers to fill your pockets with £ and € .

If you are going to win the race, don’t leave your prized stallion in the stall. Personally, I respectfully think a colour tweak may be what you need to drive the ball out of the park and cross all of the bases for your home run before the cheering onlookers from the stands. Have your horse come in first place time after time.

    My thought du jour.

    Hi Gail.

I am new to Mikmag and have ideas on how to use it on a project deferred. Purchasing other themes as building blocks I soon realized they were not going to work for what I had in mind.

The razzel dazzel of the pitch and hypnotic hype of the other authors is spellbinding to say the least. What one thought would work turns out to be limiting and racked with disappointment. Mind you they work for average users, however at our level of expertise their limitations quickly reveal themselves.

The allure of Mikmag does not disappoint, for it is a powerhouse with seemingly limitless options. I like it a lot. Being able to use it in Beta is a real treat and opens new doors of creativity and design in my mind.

That being said I will share my masterpiece with you Gail and you can critique it for me.

Gail, I really like your site. When I first saw it I thought whooah! That is an excellent site! A lot of thought and planning went into it.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    Regards,

    James

I am still working with the test site usig MikMag 2.00 so have not updated the live site for a couple of weeks but I hope to do so sometime over the weekend.

I got indirect feedback from someone high up in the Jockey Club (UK) who said they thought it is a good (business) concept, has good visuals, provides lots of information and paints a full picture - but on the negative side was a bit “busy” and not very user friendly needing more calls to action -

Never one to think I know it all I am working on making changes now to add more white space and generally declutter the site a bit + add more calls to action. Design by committee is great fun!

Combine that with doing all this on the new MikMag 2 - oh and adding in a directory of hotels etc near racecourses - whilst Nivo has also stopped allowing me to add images again :(

BTW you said you’d let me take a look at your site but did not provide a URL. If you prefer to email it to me you can use gail (at) 1LG.com.

Have a good weekend James - I am off to watch the Oaks at Epsom on TV and tomorrow it’s the Derby and I have not even started that page yet…

    Hi Gail:

I stepped up to the table and bought Mikmag 2.0 today. Put my money where my mouth is and will proceed with development, thus no link yet, but will be happy to let you peek soon. :)

Regarding the comments I don’t see your site that way at all. At best it always subjective and you never know what their frames of reference is. Many clients are accustom to media clamor along with shouting and noise typical of many tabloid papers and sites.

Mikmag is a great choice Gail and I see great genius in your work. I salute your vision for I see where you are going with it.

Go for it girl! Step up to the plate and swing for the fence! :)

To quote one of my movie heroes “YEAH, BABY!! YEAH!!”

Enjoy your programs and will communicate directly.

    Regards,

    James
