I cannot seem to master how to get a featured image sized/cropped to the right size so it doesn’t get sliced down when displayed on the category page. I basically will upload 2 different images that are similar in ratio but the theme seems to treat them differently. What’s up with that? One is cropped super narrow horizontally and the other is just trimmed a bit off the top and bottom maintaining a more square look. Please help. I am desperate….
Best,
Adam

Could you supply me with a link towards a page that displays theseimage crops, so I can go and take a look at it?

20/03/2013 at 4:26 PM #11094Yes… on this page:
http://www.vbsupco.com/category/boards/
and here:

Don’t know why I’m getting that weird skinny crop vs the bigger square…
Thank you!
20/03/2013 at 4:42 PM #11095Here are the two crop sizes:
For Hats - http://www.vbsupco.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/visor3-655×275.jpg
For T-Shirts - http://www.vbsupco.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/tshirt3-959×275.jpg
Are they both set - full width whenever you upload? No scaling, alignment differences, etc?
20/03/2013 at 4:48 PM #11096No, the visor is uploaded orginally at 655 x 458. Tshirt3 at 959 x 459. So I don’t know what else I have to do to make sure that they don’t get cropped funny… please explain…
Thank you
20/03/2013 at 8:47 PM #11102Can you try 2 images that are the same size for the featured image to see if that makes a difference in the sizes. For example as a test - crop both images to 600×400 and when you set them to be your featured image, make sure that you are using full-size. Let me know if that makes a difference.
21/03/2013 at 2:55 PM #11116Ok, so there is just no rhyme or reason to how these images are cropped.
On this page, the featured image for “HIPPO Stick PRO” is 300×300 and the thumbnail looks good.
But on this page, the featured image for “Surfing SUPs” is also 300×300, but the thumbnail is cropped narrow again.
Furthermore on this page again, the featured image for “Racing SUPs” is also a square at 480×480, but it’s image is cropped differently too.
I don’t see an option anywhere for using “full-size” when setting the featured image. Where would this be?
Thank you for all your help.
21/03/2013 at 3:02 PM #11117One more thing. On the Hats and Shirts page I set the cropped the featured images both to 486 x 500 and both of those show up the same in the category page. I’m losing precious hair over this.
21/03/2013 at 5:37 PM #11121Hi Adam,
What I believe should be happening here is that the images are being resized until the width properly fits the container. Depending on the image proportions, the image might be higher or lower than others if the proportions are not the same for all images.

21/03/2013 at 5:46 PM #11123So how does that explain the difference between the two images that are both 300×300?
22/03/2013 at 7:04 PM #11134HI,
It looks to me like the surfer SUP is Dimensions 628 × 275 and the hippo stick pro Dimensions 300 × 275. You might wanna double check that, if that are the ones you mean.
